Chromium/Chrome password to unlock keyring on startup problem

by Atalay Keleştemur30 September 2017 in Linux, no comment

If you are a Chromium or Chrome user on Linux, you will see that your web browser is asking a password to unlock the keyring. That keyring is being used to encrypt your passwords on your local. But sometimes this feature may be annoying. Don’t worry, getting rid of this problem is very easy. Open your terminal and run the following command:

1
rm ~/.local/share/keyrings/*

That way, you will remove each file located in the “keyrings” folder. Next time you run Chromium or Chrome, it will ask you a new password. Just leave the two text boxes empty. So you won’t be asked about any passwords again.

But remember that your passwords will not be encrypted and stored as a plain text.
